Power Walking, Really?!

But SWET is a running group! Why Power walking?

Sometimes you need to walk before you run!

We are bridging the gap for individuals who are just beginning on their movement journey. While our Running Start 5k is a beginner program, we still have a prerequisite of being able to briskly walk three times a week. If you aren’t doing that, getting started can be challenging! That is where we want to help.

Our groups provide professional accountability, a sense of community, and support all while providing coaching on areas such as proper pre/post workout stretches, form techniques, hydration, etc.

Maybe running isn’t your thing; there is also a need to offer fitness coaching  to folks who can’t run (for whatever reason) or who don’t want to run.  We are Southwest Endurance Training and power walking fits right into the definition of endurance.

Health Benefits of Walking

Power walking has been shown to lower your risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and some cancers. It’s a great way to get fit, improve your heart and joint health, and boost your mental well-being.

Whether you call it aerobic walking, speed walking or power walking (as we do), we know how to make your walk a workout. WoW Powerwalking pioneered the introduction of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) into walking classes almost 20 years ago so that people of all fitness abilities can participate in a high-energy, low-impact, effective workout. Research continues to prove that HIIT workouts maximize your fitness in a time-efficient way. Coach Autumn is our first certified WoW Powerwalking Coach and is excited to bring these techniques to the Tucson community!

This group meets once a week, with participants power-walking on their own two more days a week. We will meet on Thursday evenings at 6 pm at various locations around Tucson. The program is interval based with the working intervals gradually increasing over the course of the 12-week training cycle. Beginning at week 7, we will shift our group workouts to incorporate speed work which is unique to this program. At the end of the session, we will be race-walking a 5k race which is included in your program registration!

For our inaugural session, we are looking for beta testers to help us tailor the program and make it better. We are offering a 50% discount for those who are interested. In exchange for the discount, we are asking for the following in return:

  • Commit to not missing more than 2 group workouts
  • Commit to following the training plan each week
  • Provide weekly and end of session feedback

If you would like to participate as a beta tester or if you have questions, please click here to email Autumn.

We look forward to walking with you soon!!
